How to be happy

How to be happy

This week’s Vlog focuses on the problems with focusing on trying to be being happy. There are 3 myths that pervade in our society that actually get in the way of living the life we want to live. These myths are:

  1. Happiness is the natural state of being for us
  2. Happiness means feeling good and in a state of pleasure all of the time
  3. If you are not happy there must be something wrong with you

By holding on to these beliefs and constantly searching for happiness, we may well be doing the opposite. Creating a life full of disappointment, despair and depression.

Rather than focusing on pursuing happiness per se, we recommend pursing a rich, full and meaningful life that brings with it the full gamut of human emotion.

We also recommend focusing on activities that are likely to promote positive mental well being.

This includes:

  • exercise
  • sleep
  • connection with others
  • mindfuleness
  • gratitude
  • doing things that matter to you

If you would like to know more about these things or the treatment which underlies it, contact us at the practice.
