Bounce Back!
Bounce Back! is a positive approach to developing resilience and social emotional wellbeing in children.
Bounce Back! is based on positive psychology principles which research shows can help people to flourish in their lives. The program is intended to instil skills which promote positive mental health wellbeing and resilience.
The skills learnt in Bounce Back! are effective in helping children enjoy and succeed in school, build and maintain positive friendships, as well as enjoy life to the full.
Bounce Back! can help your child to:
- think more optimistically
- use helpful thinking when faced with a problem or a difficult situation
- understand that everyone has setbacks and difficulties, which can be overcome
- be brave and face their fears
- enhancing their wellbeing and boost their positive emotions
- manage uncomfortable emotions
- set goals
- not give up easily
- identify and use their strengths
Who is it for?
Children aged 9 to 11 who may have one or more of the following difficulties:
- low self-confidence
- sensitive and struggle when things do not go to plan
- difficulty managing their feelings
- think negatively about themselves and/or the world
- easily stressed or overwhelmed
Our program is intended as a prevention and early intervention program that assists children to flourish in their lives and avoid developing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety
The program
Bounce Back! is a group-based program that runs over 6 consecutive weeks for 90 minutes each session.
Groups have a maximum of 10 participants and are facilitated by experienced Psychologists.
Date: Programs run on a Saturday morning. Next Group starts Saturday October 20th 2018.
Location: Group runs in Booragoon (near Garden City Shopping Centre).
Costs: $520 ( (Includes 2 individual sessions and 6 weekly, 1 ½ hour group sessions. Medicare & Health rebates can apply to reduce final cost to $210 out of pocket).

B ad times don’t last. Things always get better. Stay optimistic.
O ther people can help if you talk to them. Get a reality check.
U nhelpful thinking makes you feel more upset. Think again.
N obody is perfect – not you and not others.
C oncentrate on the positives (no matter how small) and use laughter.
E verybody experiences sadness, hurt, failure, rejection and setbacks sometimes, not just you.They are a normal part of life. Try not to personalise them.
B lame fairly. How much of what happened was due to you, to others and to bad luck or circumstances?
A ccept what can’t be changed (but try to change what you can change first).
C atastrophising exaggerates your worries. Don’t believe the worst possible picture.
K eep things in perspective. It’s only part of your life.

Session 6: Review of Skills
Each session children are taught new skills and parents are provided with a summary of each skill.
Children are asked to complete homework tasks in between sessions to consolidate the skills learnt.

Being part of a group helps children to explore difficult issues in a supportive and fun learning environment, where they can practice and receive helpful feedback from the group leaders and their peers.
